Affirmation, oracle and coaching decks have become one of the fastest-growing print categories on Amazon and Etsy. They look simple, but the spec decisions that make a deck feel premium are specific — and most first-time creators get the size and the edge treatment wrong.
The three sizes that sell
| Format | Size | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Poker | 63 × 88 mm | Standard shuffle feel; familiar in hand |
| Bridge | 57 × 88 mm | Slimmer decks; easier to hold in large counts |
| Square | 70 × 70 mm | Instagram-friendly layouts; oracle and photo decks |
| Tarot-style | 70 × 120 mm | Long-form messages; oracle and journaling decks |
Poker and tarot dimensions are the two we produce most. Both have optimised sheet layouts, which keeps unit cost down. A custom size is possible but wastes sheet area — you pay for the paper you do not use.
Stock and the feel in hand
300 gsm blue-core is the workhorse: opaque, durable, and it does not show through when the card back is dark. For a deck that will be handled daily in a coaching or therapy setting, 350 gsm with a black core feels noticeably denser — and cards warp less over time.
Matte lamination is the dominant choice for this category. It photographs better, does not catch fingerprints, and suits the muted palettes most wellness brands use. Gloss reads cheaper in this specific category.
Edge treatments: the upgrade that gets photographed
- Painted edges — a solid colour on the deck's side wall; subtle, relatively economical
- Gilded edges — metallic gold or rose-gold foil; the single most photographed detail on premium decks
- Standard rounded corners — included, and what most retail decks use
Boxes: tuck, rigid or none
A printed tuck box is the economical standard and is fine for Amazon. A rigid two-piece box with a magnetic closure is what elevates a deck into a gift set — it costs more because it is assembled by hand, but it also lets you drop the shrink wrap and use a printed insert to tell the deck's story.
What to send for an accurate quote
- Card count and size (54, 60, 72 — and whether you need extras for promo)
- Stock and finish preference, or 'match this competitor deck'
- Edge treatment — plain, painted or gilded
- Box style, or 'recommend one for a $X retail price point'
- Target quantity and destination country for a DDP landed cost
